21,000 get title deeds on the Copperbelt

THE Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources has so far issued over 21,000 certificates of title for property owners on the Copperbelt under the National Land Titling Programme.

Speaking when he paid a courtesy call on Copperbelt Permanent Secretary Augustine Kasongo in Ndola yesterday, the Ministry’s Chief Registrar Agatha Banda said the titles would be issued to property owners from Kitwe, Chingola, Ndola, Luanshya and Mufulira.

She said the current record at the ministry showed that 70,000 property offer letters

had been issued on the Copperbelt and the ministry was now left with about 21,000 titles issued.

She said the ministry had a backlog of 49,000 people that needed to pay for them to receive their certificates of title.

“The main purpose of our five-day visit is to come and hand over these titles and use it as a platform to encourage other property owners who are not part of the programme to be part of it and get their titles,” she said

Mr Kasongo urged the ministry to expedite the exercise and undertake more sensitisation programmes so that the target could be achieved.
