ZESCO Limited has officially announced the launch of the Net Metering Program, set to begin on 1st August 2024.
ZESCO PRO Matongo Maumbi says the is in line with the Electricity (Net Metering) Regulations, 2024.
Maumbi adds that the system is designed to promote the adoption of renewable energy sources among ZESCO customers, allowing them to generate their own electricity and feed any excess power back into the grid.
“Net metering is a system that allows prosumers (consumers who also produce electricity) to generate their own power (limited to the contracted/declared demand with ZESCO) from renewable energy sources such as solar. Any excess electricity generated can be fed back into the ZESCO grid, effectively allowing prosumers to offset their electricity bills,” Maumbi said.
He further states that the system not only promotes the use of renewable energy but also enhances energy security and sustainability in Zambia.
