633 FARMERS TRAINED AS COMMUNITY LIVESTOCK FACILITATORS

(NAIS) About 633 livestock farmers are being trained throughout the country as Community Livestock Facilitators to improve production and productivity in the livestock sector.

Fisheries and Livestock Minister MAKOZO CHIKOTE says his ministry has started training Community Livestock Facilitators in basic animal production and health to help small holder farmers multiply their livestock and improve their income levels.

Mr. CHIKOTE says the new dawn government will NOT give handouts but empower people with training, livestock and infrastructure in order to sustainably grow the sector.

The Minister says government will continue scaling up empowerment programmes to all parts of the country aimed at creating wealth and reducing poverty amongst all Zambians.

Mr. CHIKOTE was speaking at Keembe Farmers Training Center in Chibombo district in Central province when he launched the training of livestock farmers and hand over of bicycles to community livestock facilitators.

And speaking earlier, Keembe Constituency Member of Parliament PRINCESS KASUNE says she is glad that her constituency has started receiving a share of livestock empowerment.

Ms. KASUNE says despite Keembe being one of the largest constituencies in the country, her area has been neglected and commended the new government for taking development to all parts of the country.

The Member of Parliament, who is also Deputy Chief Whip, however, appealed to the government to consider addressing marketing of livestock and livestock products which is a major challenge in her area.
