ZESCO CLARIFIES RECENT UPWARD CONNECTION FEE ADJUSTMENT

By Balewa Zyuulu
State owned power utility, Zesco says the Energy Regulation Board-ERB- is the only body that can approve any tariff or connection fee adjustments.
Speaking during Tuesday’s edition of let the people talk program this morning, Zesco Public Relations Director, Dr John Kunda says the recent controversy surrounding the upward connection fee adjustment was just an internal memo.
Meanwhile Dr Kunda says Zesco will clear the current backlog of over 60,000 applications for new connections before the end of the year, some of which have been piling up since 2017.
Dr Kunda said the utility is currently mobilizing funds to ensure the current backlog is dismantled and that clearing will be done on a first-come-first-serve basis.
He explains that the backlog is a reality caused by non-reflective capital contribution while others are within the stipulated construction timelines.
Dr Kunda says Zesco is cognizant that the demand for both domestic and commercial power supply in Zambia has continued to expand and in that connectivity remains key to influencing human settlement and growth of economic activities
