THE Government says the marketing profession is key for the country’s employment creation agenda.
Commerce, Trade and Industry Minister Chipoka Mulenga has since applauded the Zambia Institute of Marketing (ZIM) for incorporating entrepreneurship in the institution’s curriculum.
Mr. Mulenga said uplifting the standard of living was the Government’s responsibility, which could only be successful with the involvement of the private players.
He said this in a speech read in his behalf by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Chawe Chuulu, at the eighth ZIM graduation ceremony in Lusaka on Friday.
The occasion saw 93 students graduate in marketing.
“I am pleased with the ZIM professional qualification which does not only train individuals for formal employment but combines the training with entrepreneurship skills to enable graduates to run their own business,” he said.
ZIM president Mwewa Besa bemoaned that the number of practicing marketers without the necessary qualifications was high, stressing the need for marketers to be qualified professionals.
Mr. Besa thanked Government for the support rendered in ensuring that the profession is regulated by only allowing people registered with the body to practice.
He said the repeal of the ZIM Act Number 14 of 2003, to replace it with the ZIM Act Number two of 2022, gave the field impetus to prosecute those masquerading as marketers.
