The Ministry of Finance released 11.9 billion Kwacha to finance public service delivery in August, 2022.
Of this amount, 3 billion Kwacha went towards the wage bill for various public service workers – including health, teaching, and service personnel.
Secretary to Treasury, FELIX NKULUKUSA confirmed in a statement to ZNBC News this evening.
Mr NKULUKUSA says 537.6 million Kwacha went towards payment of redundancy packages for former Indeni workers, 227.4 million kwacha for the Food Security Pack, 200.7 million Kwacha for the Youth and Women Empowerment component under the Constituency Development Fund.
He said 133.4 million Kwacha for the operations of Grant Aided Institutions in Government ministries, 111.6 million Kwacha to the Local Government Equalization Fund, 97.6 million Kwacha for operations of universities; and, 67.5 million kwacha towards hospital operations in various regions.
Mr NKULUKUSA said 449.2 million Kwacha was for dismantling of arrears for suppliers of goods and services and 399.6 million Kwacha was released for dismantling of fuel arrears.
Meanwhile, Mr NKULUKUSA said the Treasury disbursed a subsidy of 100 million kwacha for payment of arrears under the Farmer Input Support Programme (FISP).
He said 500 million Kwacha was released for the Social Cash Transfer Programme, and 300 million Kwacha to the Public Service Pension Fund.
Mr NKULUKUSA said additionally, 150 million Kwacha was released to the Local Authorities Superannuation Fund for annuities.
Mr NKULUKUSA said to ensure that everyone is counted, the Treasury released 175 million Kwacha to the Zambia Statistical Agency for the ongoing 2022 Census of Housing and Population.
And Mr NKULUKUSA said all other Government Ministries, Provinces and Spending Agencies were given 1.7 billion Kwacha to facilitate service delivery, of which 114.7 million Kwacha went towards the purchase of essential drugs and medical supplies in Public Health Institutions.
He said 54.6 million Kwacha went to the Skills Development Fund while 30 million Kwacha went to payment of salaries for Tazara workers.
The Secretary to Treasury said the Treasury also released 758.5 million Kwacha towards capital projects.
Of this amount, 354.6 million Kwacha was for road infrastructure, 215.6 million Kwacha for water and sanitation projects, and 188.3 million Kwacha for other projects.
Mr NKULUKUSA said in line with the Government’s commitment to reduce indebtedness through payment of both domestic and external multilateral debt, a sum of 2.8 billion Kwacha was released in the month under review.
