(ZNBC)-Zambia has a deficit of about 1.8 million desks in all schools countrywide, causing many learners to sit on the floor.
And Education Minister DOUGLAS SYAKALIMA says his ministry is on course in ensuring adequate supply of desks to schools.
Mr. SYAKALIMA says his Ministry released over 12 million Kwacha to the Zambia Education Policy Implementation Unit to manufacture desks to be distributed to various schools.
Speaking when he flagged off the distribution in Lusaka today, Mr. SYAKALIMA said the Presidential directive of no learner sitting on the floor by end of next year is achievable.
Meanwhile Ministry of Education Permanent Secretary Administration NORIANA MUNEKU said the Ministry has conducted an assessment of the desk shortage and has since partnered with stakeholders to oversee a smooth implementation.
And Lusaka Provincial Education Officer ALLAN LINGAMBE said the Zambia Education Policy Implementation Unit has proved that they are equal to the task and will attract business.
