The 2023 Food Summit is set to open tomorrow in Dakar Senegal with the objective of mobilising financing and investment in agriculture to promote food security in Africa.
President Hakainde Hichilema is among Heads of State and governments expected to attend the high-level Africa Food conference which will also focus on mobilizing political interest and transforming the agriculture sector.
The President is expected to arrive at 18:00 hours local time, ahead of the two-day Summit which has been convened by the African Development Bank and the International Fund for Agricultural Research.
Zambia is among African countries that are working on implementing Food Compacts in agriculture towards enhancing food security in Africa.
At the Dakar 2 Summit, Zambia is expected to showcase its comparative advantage and its status in meeting the Agricultural production Food Compact requirements for the region and the continent.
Agriculture Minister Reuben Mtolo and his counterpart at Livestock Makozo Chikote are leading a team of experts and government officials already in Dakar for the Summit.
Mr. MTOLO says Zambia wants to also use the high level meeting to unlock investment in technology for Small and Medium enterprises in agriculture to meet the value chain targets.
