The World Health Organization (WHO) says it is on high alert to prevent any possible disease outbreaks that might emerge as a result of the anticipated effects of cyclone Freddy.
Experts have warned that Zambia will receive constant heavy rains following the cyclone that has hit parts of Mozambique and Madagascar.
WHO Country Representative, Nathan Bakyaita tells Phoenix News that usually, many diseases break out post storms period such as Cyclone Freddy who’s effects may be felt in zambia.
Dr. Bakyaita says the organization has partnered with government and other collaborating partners to avoid any adverse effects of the cyclone on the country.
Further, Dr. Bakyaita says surveillance systems have since been heightened and people are also aware on the kind of response to take in an event there is an outbreak of any disease.
