PRESIDENT Hakainde Hichilema has called for unity in the country and support to the government as it drives the process of debt restructuring.
And Defence and Service Chiefs yesterday presented President Hichilema with birthday gifts at Community house in Lusaka to celebrate the occasion of his 61st birthday.
Receiving the gifts, President Hichilema encouraged citizens to support the government in the debt restructuring process as it was a key agenda for economic development.
The President who was surprised by the birthday gesture assured that once the debt restructuring process was closed, the country would have many opportunities for the actualisation of social and economic development projects.
“We are truly humbled by the pleasant birthday surprise. We were not expecting you on a Sunday. We are grateful for your thoughtfulness, we are challenged as a country in so many areas and the key agenda is the debt restructuring process which needs us to stand together as a nation and close the deal for the economic development of the country,” he said.
Earlier President Hichilema took advantage of his birthday to pray for national unity in the midst of diversity of thought and political affiliation.”
President Hichilema also took time to individually thank his legion of Facebook followers who reacted to his prayer by wishing him a happy birthday.
“On this sacred day, we lift our voices in prayer, seeking Your divine protection for our nation, which stands united under Your guidance. May Your omnipotent hand surround us, shielding us from harm and leading us on a path of righteousness.
“We implore You to instill within our hearts a spirit of unity, enabling us to stand resolute together, despite our differences. Grant us the strength to live each day with compassion, seeking solidarity and extending grace to one another,” President Hichilema’s prayer read in part.
President Hichilema observed that God, by the power of His Holy Spirit, had beautifully woven unity into the fabric of diverse character as a nation.
President Hichilema said the multitude of diversities among Zambians reflected God’s boundless love for all of creation.
“We reject any notion that diversity should breed alienation, injustice, oppression, or harm within our beloved nation,” Mr Hichilema added.
First Lady Mutinta Hichilema also took to social media to convey a birthday message to the Head of State.
“Happy birthday my love. Your love for others, your drive and humility are admirable. I’m glad to have you by my side,” Ms Hichilema’s message read, accompanied by a picture of her walking hand-in- hand with the President. ZANIS/Times
