Government, ZNBC sign MOU to boost arts content in Zambia

The Zambian arts sector has received a major boost with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Ministry of Youth, Sport, and Arts and the Zambia National Broadcasting Corporation (ZNBC). The MoU aims to promote local content, foster stronger connections and partnerships between ZNBC and Zambian artists, and explore the production of a national television drama series that showcases the finest aspects of Zambian arts, culture, heritage, and tourism.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Youth, Sport, and Arts Permanent Secretary Arts Chama Fumba said the MoU will create a platform for people in the creative industry to showcase their content. He also encouraged artists to join National Arts Associations to actively participate in the MoU.

“I strongly encourage artists to take proactive steps and join National Arts Associations to actively participate in such progressive initiatives,” Fumba said.

ZNBC Director-General Berry Lwando said the partnership will help elevate a lot of unidentified talent. He also expressed the corporation’s delight in working closely with the government to promote art in the country and provide a platform for artists to showcase their unique and diverse content.

The signing ceremony was not only a momentous occasion for the two entities involved, but it also extended an invitation to corporations, public and private entities, and the business community to actively participate in implementing the MoU. The collective effort of these stakeholders aims to make a significant impact on the arts sector, driving success through collaborative initiatives.

With this promising collaboration in motion, Zambia’s arts sector is set to experience a new wave of growth and recognition, offering unprecedented opportunities for artists to showcase their creativity on a national stage. The MoU is a testament to the government’s commitment to fostering a thriving arts landscape, ultimately contributing to the country’s cultural enrichment and economic development.
