The World Bank has committed $60 million to help the Zambian government in its agenda to accelerate electrification of the whole country.
Energy Minister Peter Kapala has disclosed that this is in line with the government’s quest to ensure the effectiveness of the operations of the Rural Electrification Authority (REA).
“I indicated this when I spoke, earlier this month, at the Symposium of the Rural Electrification Authority and members of parliament on Development and Implementation of Priority Rural Electrification projects in Lusaka. I urged constituencies to create synergies with REA as this was the only way to achieve universal electrification by the year 2030,” Eng. Kapala said recently.
Speaking at the same event, Rural Electrification Authority’s Engineer Linus Chanda noted that the institution requires a total of K 19 billion for them to achieve 51 percent universal electrification by 2030.
