Adidas confirm all Lionel Messi Argentina shirts have sold out ahead of World Cup final

Sport clothing giants Adidas have confirmed that all Lionel Messi Argentina shirts have sold out worldwide ahead of the 2022 World Cup final on Sunday.

The 35-year-old is hoping he can lead his country to glory as Argentina prepare to take on defending champions France at the Lusail Stadium.

As Messi is such a huge icon of the sport, the demand for shirts with his name on the back has increased dramatically over the last few days.

According to Spanish news outlet Marca, Messi jerseys have become so popular that the manufacturer have run out of the ‘Messi 10’ shirts in all sizes around the world.

Adidas knew the shirts will be in high demand but they did not expect them to be this popular.

As a result, the Argentina Football Association have had to release a statement about the issue after receiving a wave of complaints from disgruntled fans.

The statement said: “We can’t do anything about it, although it’s in our interest to sell more.

“It is a matter of adidas and there are problems in the country that affect them, such as the obstacles to imports and the lack of manpower, as well as the high level of public anger.”

It has been reported that Adidas are now working hard behind the scenes to make sure that if Messi wins the World Cup, they will have as many commemorative shirts with the legend’s name on as possible.

Messi has already said that Sunday’s final will be his last ever World Cup match and many fans around the globe are rooting for Argentina.

Fans are desperate to see Messi lift that golden trophy aloft on Sunday in order to cement himself as football’s greatest player of all time.

However, standing in their way will be France, who are looking to become the first country since Brazil in 1958 and 1962 to win back-to-back World Cups.

Captain Hugo Lloris said: “Everyone will be really looking forward to the final in the Argentina camp, but for France, whoever you play in a World Cup final, it will be a tremendous occasion. And maybe playing Argentina makes that more of an attractive proposition. I sincerely hope this match will go down in history – French history in particular.”
