Scores of athletes from all walks of life are warming up in readiness to contest in this year’s edition of the renowned Kansanshi Marathon scheduled for Saturday, May 25, 2024 at Trident College in Solwezi district.
In 2023, the Kansanshi Marathon made history as the first ever mining company in Zambia to host a marathon and set the bar high as the first Zambian marathon to be world accredited in the North-West Province.
This year’s marathon is a follow up to the 2023 edition which saw over 1,200 runners participate in the Kansanshi Mining organized event. With 0ver 1,500 runners expected in this year’s event. The event had received foreign entries from five countries with Ethiopia and the Democratic Republic of Congo being the latest additions.
According to Kansanshi Mine Corporate Affairs Specialist Clinton Masumba, the only foreign entries came from Zimbabwe, Kenya and South Africa but this year’s race had seen an increase not just in the number of foreign countries but also the participants in general.
The race will feature the Zambia Athletics Association (ZAA) and World Athletics accredited categories that include 42.2 km, 21.1 km, 10 km, and the popular 5 km fun run.
