BUSINESSES URGED TO REMOVE DEFORESTATION FROM THEIR AGENDA

GOVERNMENT has reiterated its commitment to addressing climate change through improved natural resource management.

Minister of Green Economy and Environment, Collins Nzovu says his ministry is for this reason ready to partner and work with companies that preserve and conduct business in a clean green environment.

Eng. Nzovu said as such his ministry has commenced a developmental discourse aimed at improving people’s livelihoods by encouraging business models that are climate smart with an effort of greening the economy.

The Minister said this in Kalumbila district today when he officially opened Nvumabaranda green businesses private hospital which trades with a moto: Green Environment Better Future.

He therefore, encouraged business houses to do their businesses not only focusing on profit but also on their businesses impact on the environment.

“I would like to appeal to all business communities to remove deforestation from your business models and commit to working in a clean and green environment which is the way to conduct smart business and preserve our environment in the long term”, Eng. Nzovu said.

Speaking at the same event, Kalumbila mine general manager, Sean Egner said the newly opened hospital will play a key role in providing health services to the mine workforce.

“We have a workforce of up to 6,000 people that require medical care”, Mr Egner said.

He said the opening of the hospital symbolizes the growth of a town that has been developed in an environmentally conscious manner fostering green initiatives and responsible management of waste.

First Quantum Minerals, the Kalumbila mine general manager said, will remain committed to realize their commitments to climate change reduction through various initiatives.

And Nvumabaranda group of companies Chief Executive Officer, Kennedy Nduna thanked Kalumbila mine for supporting his aspirations to the current level and encouraged other local contractors to seize the available opportunitie, reports Zanis.
