CERVICAL CANCER CLAIMS 1,900 WOMEN ANNUALLY

(ZNBC) Cervical cancer has become one of the major causes of deaths among women as 1,900 women’s lives are being claimed by the disease annually.

Ministry of Health Director -Cancer Control KENNEDY LISHIMPI has disclosed the development.

Dr. LISHIMPI has further revealed that the number of women being screened for cervical cancer has increased standing at 3,162 yearly.

He was speaking in Lusaka during the Cervical Cancer Awareness Breakfast Meeting organized by Teal Sisters Foundation Zambia and the Clinton Health Access Initiative.

At the same function, Deputy Government Chief Whip PRINCESS KASUNE disclosed that government has scaled up Cancer Service Facilities in One Hundred and 11 district out of 116 districts in the country.

Ms. KASUNE however said there is need to enhance efforts to alleviate the occurrence of Cervical Cancer and the deaths associated with the disease.

Meanwhile Teal Sisters Foundation Zambia Chairperson CHILUFYA PHIRI encouraged Zambians to be proactive in seeking regular medical checkup for Cervical and Prostate Cancer.

And Cervical Cancer Survivor RABECCA SIAMBWATI encouraged Zambia to brush aside the stigma against Cervical Cancer.
