CHARCOAL BRIQUETTES A CLEAN ENERGY SOURCE TO CURB DEFORESTATION

Technology and Science Minister Felix Mutati says there is a solution to promote green charcoal energy and restrain deforestation.
Mr Mutati said Chikakanta has engraved a mark of a green economy providing an opportunity for job creation refraining its people from dependence handout vices.
He said the green charcoal energy will create an industry that will produce and supply environmentally source of energy for a clean green economy.
Minister Mutati explained that President Hakainde Hichilema wants his government to deliver youth jobs, better lives of the people of Zambia, and build the economy.
Mr Mutati was speaking, today, at the launch of charcoal briquettes facilitated by the National Business and Technology Council (NTBC) in Chikankata.
And Green Economy Minister Collins Nzovu said the launch marks an alternative source of energy in Chikankata.
Mr Nzovu said the charcoal briquettes projects have earlier been launched in Mumfumbwe, Chasefu and Chisamba districts.
He explained that the majority of people in Zambia depends on charcoal and fire for cooking and other activities to meet various needs however that adversely cause deforestation and land degradation.
Mr Nzovu said this measure will go a long way to address climate change challenge and carbon emission into the atmosphere.
Minister Nzovu said promotion and use of charcoal briquettes is a practical solution to reduce dependence on wood, charcoal and firewood as a fuel and carbon emission that is replaced with more sustainable and efficient environmentally source of energy.
