‘CLIMATE CHANGE -ASSOCIATED DISASTERS CAN BE AVERTED’

VICE-PRESIDENT WK Mutale-Nalumango has called for public access to early warning climate information to avert disasters.

Ms Mutale-Naluman said climate change associated disasters could be averted if the public was availed with the right information about climate change mitigation.

She was speaking when she graced this year’s International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction held in Lusaka yesterday under the local theme: ‘Enhancing the provision of early warning information for early action’.

Ms Mutale-Nalumango said the occasion’s theme was timely as it also stressed the need for State and non-State actors to collaborate in developing climate change information.

She said her office had forged a number of syn ergies with cooperating partners to ensure that citizens were prepared with information on climate change resilience.

“This is to ensure that we deal with climate change issues proactively and not reactively.” Ms Mutale-Nalumango said.
