“Employers should promote entrepreneurship among workers”

Labour Minister Brenda Tambatamba has called on employers to promote entrepreneurship among their workers.

Ms. Tambatamba has advised employers to award hard working employees with things such as Harmer Mills and other implements that will help them to engage in productive ventures.

She says once employees engage in side businesses, they will help Government to create employment in the country.

Ms. Tambatamba said this when she opened the Special Tripartite Consultative Labour Council -(TCLC) in Lusaka today.

Speaking at the same meeting, Zambia Congress of Trade Unions (ZCTU) President Blake Mulala called on the Ministry of Labour to conduct an audit in media institutions.

Mr. Mulala said some Media Houses do not follow Labour Laws as they have engaged Journalists for many years without proper employment contracts.

And, Federation of Employers (ZFE) President Myra Ngoma said the proposal for employers to have 10-percent of their workforce occupied by persons with disabilities is not feasible.

In a speech read on her behalf by ZFE Vice President, Kennedy Ngoma Ms. NGOMA said this is because such an undertaking will need extra services like sign language, personal assistants, braille materials and screen reader fitted computers among others.
