(ZNBC)-The United Nations Economic Commission for Africa -UNECA and the Africa Import and Export Bank have brought in their expertise in actualizing the car battery project between Zambia and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Commerce, Trade and Industry Minister CHIPOKA MULENGA says the two multilateral institutions will play a key role in feasibility studies which are about to commence for the project.
Mr. MULENGA has also disclosed that two production plants will be set up in Zambia where car batteries will be produced under the deal.
He says land for the first plant has already been identified in Ndola.
Mr. MULENGA says Ndola is an ideal location because of the presence of minerals and its accessibility by the huge market in the DRC.
Zambia and DRC signed a cooperation agreement in April last year to facilitate the development of value chain in electric batteries and clean energy sector.
The agreement will strengthen the value chain for production of batteries for electric cars which will be key to economies of Zambia and the DRC.
