Government is concerned with the mushrooming of vendors trading in alcohol and food on Lusaka’s Cairo, Freedom way and Chachacha Roads.
And Minister of Local Government, GARY NKOMBO has directed the local authority to ensure vendors trading on the three streets are taken to designated places.
He says government will ensure that sanity is restored in the Central Business District and that vendors are taken back in markets.
Mr NKOMBO has encouraged vendors on the streets to take interest and apply for trading space in the new markets.
The Minister is concerned with the traders that are congesting the streets leaving designated trading places empty.
Mr. NKOMBO said this when he inspected various streets and markets in Central Business District in Lusaka.
He has assured vendors that are adamant on leaving Cairo, Freedom way and Chachacha roads that government is not aimed at displacing them but restoring order on the streets.
And Lusaka Mayor CHILANDO CHITANGALA has promised to continue engaging the vendors to ensure they understand the need for them to trade in designated areas.
Meanwhile, Lusaka City Council Director Housing and Social Services DANNY CHIBINDA said over 2 thousand traders will be accommodated at City market once the works are completed in the next two months.
