FOod Reserve Agency denise reports of maize shortage on the Copperbelt

The Food Reserve Agency (FRA) has refuted claims of maize shortage on the Copperbelt and has advised millers in the province to apply for additional maize within the authorized quantities

Reacting to reports that Chimanga Change Milling in Ndola on the Copperbelt has suspended operations due to non-supply of maize by the agency, FRA Public Relations Coordinator John Chipandwe says the agency has been constantly releasing maize to millers not only on the copperbelt but countrywide.

Mr. Chipandwe says as such, the FRA expects Mealie-meal to be available on the market.

He has disclosed that the agency has sold over 50, 000 metric tonnes of maize to millers on the copperbelt.

Mr. Chipandwe states that of the total 52,528.90 metric tons of white maize sold to millers on the Copperbelt province as at 17th march 2023, only 42,861.09 metric tons has been collected by millers leaving a balance of 9,667.81 metric tons yet to be collected.
