First Quantum Minerals has scooped six awards at the prestigious 6th National Conference on Occupational Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) organized by the Zambia Chamber of Mines.

FQM’s Kansanshi mining Plc emerged as the overall winner, bagging Best Performer in Innovation, President’s Awards-Anthony Mukutuma, Best Performer in Local Content, Mining Women of the Year-Wakunoli Munalula Nsofwa and the Best mining company of the year mantle with justification while FQM Trident Ltd snatched the Best performer in environment management award at the just ended illustrious annual awards gala held at Protea Hotel on Friday in Ndola.

FQM’s Kansanshi Mining PLC and FQM Trident Ltd put a splendid display of mining operations, safety, and environmental management that the mining giant ventures in to support communities around Solwezi and Kalumbila Districts.

The FQM Kansanshi team was led by General Manager Anthony Mukutuma who got the Chamber of Mines Presidential honor and hinted that his company went ahead of the pack because of its focus on people first by making sure that they are growing and supported to pursue their dreams.

“As Kansanshi mining and FQM, it is really a proud moment to be able to scoop all these awards. This goes to show how FQM values the communities where we work and it also shows our strategy of putting people first is really coming through to see a woman come through from our team to win an award is something we’ve been working on for many years and I think we started to see those offshoots now,” Mukutuma said.

FQM Trident Public Relations Specialist Mirriam Harmon said the awards are an indication of Mine Manager Junior Keyser’s environmental team that adheres to sound environmental practices.

This year’s awards gala was held under the theme, “Achieving Excellence In Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) Systems Through Institutional Linkages and Networking.”
