FRA TO PAY FARMERS USING MOBILE BANKING

The Food Reserve Agency -FRA- says it has partnered with banks to provide mobile banking services to farmers in rural areas.
FRA Executive Director CHOLA KAFWABULULA says this will help farmers not to spend their hard earned cash on travelling to banks.

Dr. KAFWABULULA says over 1-billion kwacha has so far been paid to farmers who have supplied Maize, Soya Beans and Paddy Rice to the Agency.

Dr. KAFWABULULA told ZNBC that the FRA has so far bought 280,000 metric tonnes of maize of which Luapula accounted for the highest at 52,000 metric tonnes while Western Province accounted for the lowest at 8,000 metric tons.

He says the agency has also bought 95,000 metric tonnes of Soya beans, which is the highest it has ever bought with Eastern Province accounting for the highest at 35,000 metric tons while Luapula accounted for the lowest supply at 294 metric tons.

The FRA has also bought 379 metric tonnes of paddy Rice with Central Province accounting for the highest supply at 146 metric tonnes.
