Google’s AI chatbot Bard can now help developers write code

Google is set to update its generative artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot, Bard, to help people write code for software development. This move by the tech giant is aimed at keeping up with the rapidly-evolving AI technology sector. Bard is Google’s experiment to collaborate with generative AI technology that relies on past data to create content instead of identifying it.

Last month, Google publicly released Bard to compete with Microsoft Corp’s release of its own chatbot called ChatGPT, which was developed by the startup OpenAI. The release of ChatGPT caused a sprint in the technology sector last year to put AI into more users’ hands.

Google revealed on Friday that Bard will be able to code in 20 programming languages, including Java, C++, and Python. Bard can help users debug and explain code, and optimize code to make it faster or more efficient with simple prompts such as “Could you make that code faster?”.

Currently, a small set of users can chat with Bard and ask questions, rather than running Google’s traditional search tool. Google’s update to Bard is a step towards democratizing access to AI technology for software development, and it will be interesting to see how it stacks up against other AI chatbots in the market.
