Government buys equipment for national sports teams

Government has started the procurement of training equipment for various sports disciplines meant to enhance preparations for national sports teams.

Sports Minister Elvis Nkandu says government has so far procured jerseys for footballers which are currently being distributed to members of Parliament for sports activities in their constituencies.

Nkandu says more needs to be done especially for minor sports because Government is saddened to learn that some national sports teams are training for competitions without adequate equipment.

He told ZNBC news in an interview that the next consignment will cater for many sports disciplines, making it easier for Federations to enhance Performance.

Nkandu noted that it is only with adequate preparations and the necessary tools that desired results can start pouring in.

He said a significant amount of money was allocated for sports development and is now being used for the intended purposes.
