Vice President, Mutale Nalumango, says government has embarked on strategies that will improve farming practice for farmers in rural areas in order to foster economic development in Chiefdoms.
Ms Nalumango says the government recognises the important role that Chiefs wives play in uplifting people’s livelihoods through various activities especially farming.
Speaking in a speech read for her by Lusaka Province deputy Permanent Secretary, Alex Mapushi during the meeting of Chiefs wives in Lusaka today, Ms Nalumango said the government is rolling various interventions to improve the livelihoods of people in the country.
Mrs Nalumango further said the Ministry has so far registered 82,000 Cooperatives Countywide with different projects ranging from Agro processing to Animal farming among others.
She commended the chiefs’ wives for forming a foundation to look into the plight of their subjects in the respective chiefdoms country wide.
And Queens of Excellence Foundation Chairperson, Agness Mumbi of the Nsenga speaking people of Eastern Province highlighted the role chief’s wives are doing to better the lives of the people in communities.
She said the foundation is committed to contributing significantly to the development of the communities in which they live as opposed to depending on the government.
