GOVERNMENT TO WORK WITH MINING COMPANIES IN ENSURING ADHERENCE TO ENVIRONMENTAL STATUTES

Government says it will continue to work with all mining companies to ensure that there is total adherence to environmental statutes.
Minister of Green Economy and Environment Collins Nzovu said there will be no discrimination in the application of the environmental laws.
Speaking when he toured Barrick Lumwana Mine in Kalumbila district of North-Western Province, Mr. Nzovu says government understands the implications of negligence when some mining firms are allowed to break the laws.
Meanwhile, Lumwana Mine Environmental Manager Paul Mashikani says the mining company is always in talks with ZEMA in its quest to implement environmental friendly methods of mining and disposing off of hazardous products obtained from mining activities.
Mr. Mashikani added that the firm is in the process of cleaning up the water from the decommissioned site after tracing uranium.
