MINISTRY of Local Government and Rural Development Permanent Secretary Nicholas Phiri says Government is determined to ensure that all illegal structures built across the country are demolished.
Speaking when he featured on Byta FM in Mazabuka, Mr. Phiri said issues of illegal structures mushrooming across the country had become a source of concern, adding that the Government was more than determined to address the matter.
He said when with illegal structure across the country, the due process of the law would be followed and there would be no sacred cows.
He said citizen must desist from the habit of constructing structures without authority from relevant Government institutions.
Mr. Phiri said the law provided that no structure should be erected without express permission from the local authority.
He said razing down of structures like it happened in Chingola District was the most difficult and heart-breaking decision for the Government to make.
He said when the Government reached a decision to demolish a structure, it meant it has exhausted all channels.
He said the Government did not take pride or joy in taking action such as the development in Chingola District.
Mr. Phiri said for a long time local authorities across the country had allowed illegalities to take root and gave building permits in places where they were not supposed to be.
He said the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development would institute administrative measures against all councils that had been promoting illegalities.
He said time had come for the country to return to normalcy, law and order and a conducive environment for the economy.
