HH leads in Africa

…Leadership Magazine names him African Political Leader of 2022

PRESIDENT Hakainde Hichilema has been named as the African Political Leader of the Year 2022 while Zambia’s Victoria Falls University of Technology founder and vice-chancellor Gertrude Mwangala- Akapelwa is African Educationist of the Year 2022.

Other winners are first female World Trade Organization director general, Dr Ngozi Okonjo Iweala, Sierra Leone President Julius Maada Bio and five others from across Africa.

To take the African Political Leader of the Year 2022 slot, Zambia’s seventh president beat his Tanzanian counterpart Samia Suluhu Hassan who was the runner-up in the category.

President Hichilema and eight others were announced as the winners of the 11th African Leadership Magazine Persons of the Year- 2022 The winners emerged with a combined total vote of more than 15,000 and over one million active online engagements during the voting period, as at the close of the poll last Friday, at midnight Central African Time.

According to a statement distributed by the Africa Media Agency. accessed by TIMES OF ZAMBIA in Lusaka yesterday, the poll, which has become the continent’s premium vote-based awards, attracted over 12,000 votes on the ALM website and over 3,000 votes through email.

The winners of the awards will be presented with the honour instruments in February next year during the annual African Leadership Magazine Persons of the Year Award ceremony slated for Mauritius.

The winners were unveiled by the publisher of the Magazine, Dr Ken Giami, at the United Kingdom (UK) head office of the group.

The announcement of the winners was preceded by the awards committee working with the editorial team to collate online and offline votes and submissions from the over one million subscribers/ followership base of the publication.

Dr Julius Maada Bio got the African of the Year 2022 award after outpolling his runner-up and Namibian President Hage Geingob while Ms Okonjo-Iweala a Nigerian former Finance minister got the African Female Leader of the Year 2022 after outshining Ethiopian President Sahle-Work Zewde.

Dr Nwangala- Akapelwa, another Zambian flag carrier, got the African Educationist of the Year 2022 with South Africa’s University of Cape Town vice- chancellor, Mamokgethi Phakengas, as the runner- up.

 

Higher Life Foundation Zimbabwe executive chairperson, Tsitsi Masiyiwa, is the African Philanthropist of the Year 2022 with Oriental Energy Resources (Nigeria) chairperson, Mohammed Indimi, as the runner-up.

Namibian Deputy minister of Information, Communication and Technology, Emma Theofilus, is the Emerging African Leader of the Year 2022 while Chipper Cash Uganda co-founder Ham Serunjogi is the runner-up.

For Africa Peace and Security Leader of the Year 2022, Gambian chief of defense staff, Yankuba Drammeh got the first slot trailed by Rwanda Defence Force chief of defence staff General Jean Bosco Kazura.

Aftrac Limited Nigeria managing director Patricia Simon-Hart is the African Energy Leader of the Year 2022 while Morintat National Oil Corporation Kenya’s Leparan Gideon is the runner-up.

The African Leadership Magazine is published by African Leadership UK Limited, a company registered in that country.

The magazine focuses on bringing the best of Africa to a global audience, telling the African story from an African perspective.
