IDC’S KALENE HILLS FRUIT COMPANY SET TO ADD VALUE TO PINEAPPLES IN NORTH WESTERN PROVINCE

In 2020, the Industrial Development Corporation (IDC) embarked on an ambitious project to set up a fruit processing plant in Mwinilunga. The project speaks to one of the key mandates of the IDC, which is to add value to natural resources.

Plant and equipment installation commenced in the fourth quarter of 2021, with commissioning planned for this year. The factory will process about 24,000 metric tonnes of fruits annually and create about 200 direct jobs.

The company will not only enhance job creation and a guaranteed market for the more than 1,500 farmers in Ikelenge and Mwinilunga Districts, but also various players in the value chain that the company will create.
