(ZNBC)-Government says about 100 million Kwacha is likely to be spent on the renovation of infrastructure at the National Heroes Stadium and OYDC-Zambia running tracks.
Sports Minister ELVIS NKANDU says the amount which was first allocated of 58 million Kwacha is likely to exceed owing to the scoop of works required to modernize both facilities especially the stadium.
NKANDU says the Ministry had set aside funds for the renovation works but that more money has to be raised in partnership with the corporate world in order to bring the works up to standard.
He says it is for this reason that Government unveiled a well vested local committee to spearhead the smooth running of the hosting of the Confederation of African Athletics Junior Championship to held in Lusaka in April this year.
NKANDU told ZNBC Sports News that the job of the local organizing committee comprising mainly heads of Corporate firms in the Banking, manufacturing, business and social sectors is aimed at ensuring adequate funds aside what Government will be spending is raised to successfully host the championship.
And the Minister says his office is finalizing on the hiring of the contractor to work on the running tracks at the heroes stadium and OYDC-Zambia.
He said minimal works have already began with the major scoop expected to start once the contractor is on site.
