Kafue District has received relief food and clothing from the Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit (DDMU) for one hundred and forty (140) vulnerable households who lost their crops due to the poor rainfall pattern that was experienced in some parts of the country in the previous rainy season.
Kafue District Administrative Officer, Manasseh Kalume, said the food items received will help vulnerable households to be food secure, while other items will help them in other ways.
Speaking in a phone interview with the Zambia News and Information Services (ZANIS), Ms. Kalume said among the items received is 30 by 12.5kg bags of Mealie Meal, 15 by 50kgs bags of beans, 30 by 12.5 bags of Soya chunks, 30 by 2kgs of Sugar, 30 by 1kgs of Salt, 10 boxes 750m Cooking oil, Rice and Dates.
“We also received 30 mosquito nets, 30 blankets, 50 sanitary hampers, bathing soap, roofing sheets and body lotion,” she said.
Ms. Kalume has commended the government for the items received in the district.
And District Disaster Management Officer Honest Mulenga said the distribution of the said items to the vulnerable households in Siachinyama and Lukolongo areas has started.
“My office together with the District Disaster Management Committee will also distribute the food to vulnerable households in Chaiwa,” Mr. Mulenga further said.
Easter Mwamungule, who received roofing sheets for her house, thanked the government for attending to her plight while Mwangala Mwanag’ombe, a grade five pupil, also appreciated the gifts received.
