A-SEVENTEEN-YEAR-OLD mobile money booth agent of Kitwe has allegedly been abducted by unknown people who are demanding K20,000 for her release.
Copperbelt Police Commanding Officer Peacewell Mweemba confirmed that the victim, Agnes Tindwa was reported missing by her mother Loveness Mwaba, who said she disappeared on December 9, this year in Kamitondo Township.
Mr Mweemba said Ms Tindwa worked as a mobile money agent at Kamitodo market and that she went for work on December 8 and did not return.
He said at the time, the victim’s mother was out attending a wedding ceremony in Chamboli Township.
“When she got home, she found that her daughter did not return from work and she started searching for her from her relatives’ and friends’ places” Mr Mweemba said.
On December 12, around 06:00 hours, the victim’s mother reported that she had received a phone call in which a man, claiming that he was holding Ms Tindwa custody and that he had abducted her because she owed one of her previous bosses a lot of money.
“The abductor said they had been instructed by the same former boss to the victim to get the money from her amounting to K20,000, so that she could be released,” he said, adding that failure to pay the ransom money, she would be killed.
He said similarly on Monday this week, the alleged abductors called the victim’s mother, demanding for the money and that they allowed her to speak with her daughter, who pleaded that she availed the money.
“She told her mother that she was being kept at an unknown place in Solwezi,” Mr Mweemba said.
He said a docket of abduction had been opened and investigations instituted.
