Maamba collieries to reduce maintenance time of plant

(ZNBC)-President HAKAINDE HICHILEMA has disclosed that Maamba Collieries Limited will reduce it’s scheduled maintenance works by a few days to ensure power generation is restored to full capacity.

President HICHILEMA says the company has been advised to take into account the challenges of hydrology when it schedules its maintenance works.

The President said this at Maamba Collieries Limited Thermal plant in Sinazongwe District after a closed door meeting with management.

President HICHILEMA added that government is determined to make sure the shortages of electricity do not perpetuate to become an annual occurrence.

And Energy Regulation Board Chairperson, REYNOLDS BOWA says the scheduled maintenance at the thermal plant is required on a scheduled basis of every 4 thousand hours.

He says the maintenance works at the plant was deferred as far back as possible by about eight hundred hours but could no longer be pushed further because it was not safe for the equipment.

Maamba Collieries Limited has taken off its 150 megawatts generator for routine annual maintenance which was scheduled to run up 20th January 2023.
