Manchester City thrash Arsenal 4-1 with De Bruyne masterclass

Magnificent Manchester City dealt a crushing blow to Arsenal’s Premier League dream putting them in control of the title race. Pep Guardiola’s side outclassed the league leaders 4-1 at the Etihad Stadium, with Kevin De Bruyne playing a starring role, scoring twice. Erling Haaland was also on target as City made it 12 successive league wins against Arsenal, seizing control of their destiny in the process.

The match began with a bang as De Bruyne fired City ahead in the seventh minute from Haaland’s pass. From there, City went on to bombard Arsenal’s goal, with John Stones finally doubling their lead with a header in first half stoppage time. Arsenal, who had begun the clash five points clear, looked powerless to stop the onslaught.

City’s relentless attacking play saw them continue to dominate in the second half. De Bruyne struck again early on, and it quickly became a damage-limitation operation for the leaders. Despite Rob Holding grabbing an 86th-minute consolation, it was too little too late for Mikel Arteta’s side. City now look like firm favourites to claim a fifth title in six seasons.

Haaland finally got on the scoresheet in stoppage time for his 49th goal of the season in all competitions. This makes him the most prolific top-flight player in England since Clive Allen in 1986-87.
