Metso to deliver €20m minerals processing equipment package to Kansanshi Copper Mine

Metso Corporation has announced that it has received an order from Canadian First Quantum Minerals (FQM) for the delivery of minerals processing equipment to their Kansanshi copper mine in Zambia. The value of the order exceeds 20 million Euros.

The equipment will be used in the S3 expansion of the Kansanshi mine, which is currently underway. The expansion will increase the mine’s copper production capacity by 25%.

The equipment that Metso will be supplying includes apron feeders, Nordberg® MP800™ cone crushers, TankCell® e630 and TankCell® e300 mechanical flotation cells, high-intensity Concorde CellTM units, ColumnCellTM units, HRT thickeners and a clarifyer.

“We are pleased to have been awarded this order by FQM,” said Antti Rinne, Vice President, Flotation, at Metso. “This is a significant order for us, and it showcases our strong position in the minerals processing market.”

The Kansanshi mine is one of the largest copper mines in the world. It is located near Solwezi in the North-western Province of Zambia. The mine is currently producing around 2.5 million tonnes of copper per year.

The S3 expansion of the Kansanshi mine is expected to be completed in 2024. Once the expansion is complete, the mine’s copper production capacity will increase to 3.1 million tonnes per year.
