Government has flagged off works on the 156 million Euros Zambia Water and Sanitation project on the Copperbelt.
The project will benefit about 500-thousand people.
Water and Sanitation Minister MIKE MPOSHA says the project which targets Chingola, Chililabombwe and Mufulira Districts, will be done in a phased approach.
Mr. MPOSHA said this when he handed over the 9.9 million Euros Zambia Water and Sanitation project to Mulonga Water Supply and Sanitation Company in Chililabombwe.
He said during the construction 1200 direct and indirect jobs will be created.
Mr. MPOSHA said the Zambia Water and Sanitation project is financed by Government through loans from the European Investment Bank, Agence Franchise De Development and a grant from the European Union.
Meanwhile, Chililabombwe Member of Parliament PAUL KABUSWE has called on the contractor to prioritise the awarding of jobs to the local community.
Speaking at the same function, Mulonga Water Supply and Sanitation Company Managing Director NDILA HAMALAMBO said the project will improve service delivery.
