Mulungushi University council coming-Kamoko

THE Government has assured Mulungushi University management that it is working to reconstitute a university council and also appoint boards of other learning institutions.

Education Permanent Secretary Joel Kamoko said in an interview yesterday that the ministry was committed to the establishment of the council at the institution.

Mr Kamoko said the appointment of the council was not the sole responsibility of the ministry, but the process involved various stakeholders.

“As a ministry we have done our part and made our submission for full Cabinet approval,” he said.

He advised management to work within the law and in the absence of the council, the institution was supposed to work in collaboration with Education Minister Douglas Siakalima.

“This is for social good and should not be politicised, but we want to assure them that the council and other boards will be in place soon,” he said.

He said the Government appreciated the role that the universities continued to play for the country and wanted them to continue being the centres of excellence.

During a recent graduation ceremony Mulungushi University Chancellor Oliver Saasa appealed to the Government to expedite the appointment of the institution’s council, noting that its absence was negatively hampering operations.
