MUTATI CALLS FOR TRAINING OF WOMEN IN SCIENCE

Government says there is need to train more women in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics -STEM- in order for them to take up leading positions in the technology and Science field in Zambia.

Technology and Science Minister FELIX MUTATI says the number of women in the science and technology field is minimal globally hence the need for Zambia to be exemplary in training more women in the sector.

Mr. MUTATI explains that only 20 percent of all technology jobs are held by women and only about 26 percent of all computing jobs in the world are held by women.

He adds that Zambians need to focus on closing the gender gap in all work spheres especially in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics.

Mr. MUTATI was speaking when he graced the launch of When Females Lead Zambia scholarship program in Lusaka.

The Programme will aim at providing scholarships for young vulnerable girls to universities and colleges in the country.

Speaking at the same event, When Female Lead Founder MIZINGA MELU said she is pleased that Government supports the move to educate women in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics

Ms. MELU, who is also ABSA Bank Managing Director, said it is important that women venture in the technology field.
