Mutati Urges Zambians to Embrace Artificial Intelligence

By Felix Katyetye

Technology and Science Minister Felix Mutati has urged Zambians to embrace Artificial Intelligence (AI), emphasizing its permanence and potential to simplify life and strengthen the economy.

Speaking at the Future of Artificial Intelligence in Africa Global Summit and Expo in Chongwe, Mutati highlighted AI’s role in enhancing productivity and efficiency across various sectors.

“AI will facilitate the delivery of medicines, the mining of minerals and overall welfare. “There is not need to be agitated of the AI but rather welcomed it as a tool to ease daily life and improve economic operations,” Mutati said.

He added that in alignment with this vision, the government is developing an Artificial Intelligence Strategy to guide the nation in leveraging AI effectively.

The strategy, he said, will provide a roadmap for utilizing AI to enhance service delivery and improve quality of life.

Meanwhile Compu Connect Education Chief Executive Officer Sarah Njamu, echoed Mutati’s sentiments, stressing the importance of AI for Africa’s progress.

Njamu noted that while the continent faces challenges with digital infrastructure, these should be viewed as opportunities for increased investment in AI technology.

“Africa must utilize Artificial Intelligence for its own benefit, turning digital infrastructure challenges into opportunities for growth.” She said.

The summit underscored the critical role of AI in driving development and improving services, positioning Zambia and the broader African continent at the forefront of technological advancement.
