NORTH WEST CHIEFS WANT 15% OF MINING REVENUE

Chiefs in North Western Province have called on Government to review the Mining Policy to include provisions where 15-percent of proceeds from Mining firms will remain in host Provinces.

Chief MUMENA of the Kaonde People said this on behalf of seven traditional leaders who met President HAKAINDE HICHILEMA in Kalumbila District on the sidelines of the launch of the Enterprise Nickel Mine.

Chief MUMENA added that giving back to the host communities will allow local people to benefit from the mineral wealth.

The traditional leaders further proposed that local communities that host mines own 5-percent equity in the firms.

And President HICHILEMA guided traditional leaders in the Province to convene a meeting with mine investors and the local communities to find an amicable solution to challenges they are faced with.

Mr. HICHILEMA also said he will constitute a team to address the issues raised by the traditional leaders.
