Pitso Mosimane joins Al Wahda FC

South African coach Pitso Mosimane has joined United Arab Emirates Pro League club Al Wahda FC. Mosimane, who has won 19 career trophies, was most recently the head coach of Saudi Arabian side Al Ahli.

Mosimane was appointed as Al Ahli coach in September 2022 and took over the club sitting in seventh position after five games. He led them back to the Saudi Pro League with four games to spare. However, there were whispers that the club would part ways with the coach, despite this incredible achievement.

Mosimane himself opted to end his contract with Al Ahli but wasn’t without a job for long. Al Wahda announced on Saturday that they had signed Mosimane as their new head coach.

“Al Wahda FC Company has signed with the South African Technical Director Pitso Mosimane to lead the first team as a Head Coach,” the club stated. “The Club’s Board of Directors welcomes Mr Mosimane to the Home of Champion; wishing him the success in serving the club’s leadership, administration and fans ambitions.”

Al Wahda won four UAE Pro League titles, but their last came in 2009/10. They finished third in the previous campaign and just missed out on qualification for the Asian Champions League.

Mosimane becomes the fifth club of his career after SuperSport United, Mamelodi Sundowns, Al Ahly and Al Ahli Saudi.

Al Wahda will be hoping that Mosimane can help them to return to winning ways and challenge for silverware in the UAE Pro League and the Asian Champions League.
