Mines Minister Paul Kabuswe has revealed that plans are underway to secure land to set up a plant for the manufacturing of electric motor vehicle batteries.
Mr. Kabuswe says since Zambia and the Democratic Republic of Congo –DRC- recently signed a cooperation agreement to facilitate the development of the value chain in electric battery and clean energy sector, both governments are working on actualizing the project as it has the potential to transform the economies of both countries.
He explains that it is for this reason that government is focusing on unlocking the country’s brown fields to aid in the development of the battery value chains and the production of electric vehicles.
Mr. Kabuswe has since stressed on the need for the mining sector to work in harmony with government to ensure there is no delay in the implementation of the project.
