President Hichilema Honors Muzala Samukonga, others on Africa Day

Hichilema awarded Commonwealth 400 meters gold medalist Muzala Samukonga with the President’s Insignia of Meritorious Achievement for his outstanding achievements in the sport that have attracted recognition for Zambia in the World.

He also honored Judge Florence Mumba, the former Electoral Commission of Zambia-ECZ- Chairperson with the Grand Commander of the Order of Distinguished Service, first Division. Mumba was the first female to be appointed High Court Judge in Zambia.

Hichilema also honored veteran Journalist Mpundu Mwape with the Order of Distinguished Service second Division for his long and impactful service in the media which saw him produce more than 500 documentaries most of which covered the agricultural sector.

At this year’s Investiture Ceremony, the President honored 22 people in various categories for their exceptional service to the country.

Meanwhile, Hichilema pardoned 1,477 prisoners from various Correctional Facilities across the country.

This year’s African Freedom Day was commemorated under the theme, “Acceleration of the African Continental Free Trade Area Implementation.”

The African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) is a trade bloc that was launched in 2019. It is the largest free trade area in the world by population, with over 1.3 billion people. The AfCFTA aims to boost intra-African trade and reduce poverty.

Hichilema’s decision to pardon prisoners and honor athletes, journalists, and other individuals for their service to the country is a sign of his commitment to building a better Zambia.
