President HAKAINDE HICHILEMA has challenged quasi Government institutions and statutory bodies to prioritize revenue generation.
President HICHILEMA says it is important that quasi Government institutions and statutory bodies invest in areas that will unlock the economy and create jobs.
He says in the past public officers and controlling officers supported expenditure such as buying of luxury vehicles and first class air tickets at the expense of serving citizens better.
President HICHILEMA has cited the purchase of the 190 million dollar Presidential Jet saying the money would have been channeled to needy areas.
The head of state said this during the special meeting with Heads of Quasi Government institutions and statutory bodies under the theme “working together towards a common purpose.”
And President HICHILEMA said there is need to amend the procurement processes to unlock the rigidities around tender processes so that more Zambians can bid for contracts.
He said it is unacceptable that people who failed to supply fertilizer in the past are still being awarded contracts.
Meanwhile President HICHILEMA noted the need for institutions not to leave the fight against corruption to the Anti Corruption Commission alone.
And Acting Secretary to Cabinet PATRICK KANGWA said President HICHILEMA’s meeting with heads of Quasi Government and Statutory bodies is aimed ensuring that they conform to the UPND’s transformation agenda.
