The Rural Electrification Authority (REA) has commenced the implementation of Priority Rural Electrification Projects (PREPS) aimed at enhancing the electrification of priority projects countrywide.
REA Chief Executive Officer LINUS CHANDA says the project was arrived at when the Authority realized that Local Authorities have priorities in their jurisdiction that would require electrification through resources from local authorities.
Mr. CHANDA says REA targets the signing of about forty MoUs with various town councils countrywide.
He was speaking during the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between REA and Chibombo Town Council in Lusaka – the first MoU to be signed under the project.
Meanwhile, Chibombo Council Chairperson NEWTON NYELETI expressed gratitude to REA and cooperating partners for coming on board to address the lack of adequate electricity in the area.
And Chibombo area Member of Parliament, MWABASHIKE NKULUKUSA said adequate electricity in the area will enhance productivity of the citizens.
