REOPENING OF MINING CADASTRE DEPARTMENT UNDER WAY – HH

President Hakainde Hichilema says the process of re-opening Mining Cadastre Department and floating bids is under way.

Mr. Hichilema said that the process is aimed at removing blocks in the mining rights to companies which are wholly or partly owned by Zambians.

He added that his Government intends to restrict to only five the number of mining rights any entity or company can own.

“This will ensure that international companies wishing to acquire mining rights, partner with Zambians or companies owned by Zambians,” he said.

And that in addition Government is pushing for the use of ICT and digitalization in the conduct of business, to avoid human error and unnecessary bureaucracy, amongst other measures.

Mr. Hichilema further said this will improve the ease of doing business in the mining sector.
The president further called upon all citizens to take full advantage of these opportunities being opened.

“We have reviewed the mining sector regime in order to encourage more investment and increase the participation of Zambians in the mineral value chain.”
