Ruud van Nistelrooy Resigns as PSV Eindhoven Head Coach

PSV Eindhoven head coach Ruud van Nistelrooy has resigned with immediate effect, citing a lack of support within the club.

Van Nistelrooy, who took over as head coach in March 2022, won the Dutch Cup and Dutch Super Cup in his first season in charge. However, the club finished second in the Eredivisie, behind Feyenoord.

In a statement, PSV said that they were “surprised and disappointed” by Van Nistelrooy’s decision, but that they respected his choice.

“Ruud has done a great job in his first season at the club,” the statement said. “He has won two trophies and helped us to qualify for the Champions League. We are grateful for his efforts and wish him all the best in his future career.”

Van Nistelrooy has not yet commented on his decision to resign.

Assistant coach Fred Rutten will take over as interim head coach for the final game of the season against AZ Alkmaar.
