Athletics National team Coach DOUGLAS KALEMBO has predicted that Commonwealth gold medalists in the 400 meters race MUZALA SAMUKONGA will this year break the world record.
KALEMBO says at the pace that the sprinter is running, it is possible that he will smash the world record in the 400 meters race.
He says SAMUKONGA has started his season on a high running 45.16 seconds during the Ndola All Comer’s Meet Championship which is a good indication ahead of major competitions to come this year.
KALEMBO told ZNBC Sports News in an interview that with major tournaments to come this year, SAMUKONGA needs more exposure to get him ready to challenge for medals in all events.
He also disclosed that SAMUKONGA will in June this year travel for an international camp in Europe in a bid to get him ready for selected events.
The current men’s world record is held by Wayde van Niekerk of South Africa, with a time of 43.03 seconds.
